Description

The XIVth Anglo-American Seminar on Medieval Economy and Society will be held at Dartington Hall (Devon), June 30th to July 3rd 2023.

There will be six plenary papers and this year’s speakers will be Professor Adrian Bell, Professor Robert Braid, Dr Stephanie Brown, Dr Louisa Foroughi, Dr Rhiannon Sandy, and Professor Jane Whittle.

The Saturday afternoon symposium will be chaired by Professor Maryanne Kowaleski and will be on the subject of material culture in the medieval economy and society; the panellists will be Dr Chris Briggs, Dr Harmony Dewez, Professor Christopher Dyer, and Dr Laurel Wilson as well as a paper by me, co-authored with Dr Elizabeth New. Topics will include inventoried goods, wine, pottery, fashion and clothing, and seals.

The Sunday afternoon trip will be led by Dr David Stone and will feature a visit to the deserted medieval settlement at Houndtor on Dartmoor.
