Course Description

This face-to-face module develops an understanding of colour, its practical applications to painting and presents information on colour theory. 

There is scope for students to respond creatively to projects and to build a portfolio of varied work. Extended projects will be available online too through short videos and demonstrations

Syllabus

The module aims to give you a diverse range of painting and drawing techniques whilst giving the opportunity to develop your own techniques and be self expressive. It will be taught as a series of workshops with set exercises.

 

• Introduction to different qualities of paint: oil, acrylic, body colour, gouache, brushes and paper
• Tonal painting
• Surface Texture
• Rendering texture in different ways
• Col our theory: complementary colours and discords, colour wheel.
• The Power of colour
• Tones, Hues, Chroma, local colour, reflected colour, octanic colour, glazes, overlaying colour, analogous colours
