Course Description

This course will equip you with a sound knowledge of clay modelling and of hollowing of clay sculpture as necessary to fire the ceramic works.

 

You will study the human head in great detail and produce a final piece fired in clay. The course will explore a variety of approaches to create a life size human head in clay, but final outcomes can vary in size.

 

Emphasis will be placed on an academic approach to modelling which will involve accurate measuring and observation of the model. Development of individual style and handling of the clay will be encouraged. The course is aimed at students with prior skills in life drawing, ceramics or sculpture and is not suitable for level O students. You will document the entire process with a visual diary supported with photographs, technical drawings and text.
