Course Description

Continuing with the ‘eco’ slant provided in other modules such as ‘Cover to Cover’, this module is designed to expand students’ drawing and painting skills taking them into the dimension of collage. By incorporating an introduction to working three dimensionally through assemblage methods, it will provide a good route for student progression onto other 3D modules such as ‘Cover to Cover’. Since its emergence in the Art world in the early part of the twentieth century, Collage has continued to serve not only as a primary form of expression but also as a principle means of evaluating and developing new creative strategies.  

This module allows a developmental journey from the process of ‘drawing with paper’ through to collage printmaking methods and finally on to sculptural assemblage. Re-cycling, re-assembling, and re-contextualizing are key elements. Technique workshops and referencing contemporary artists exploring this exciting medium will underpin this module.
