Course Description

A self-paced practical watercolour module. Through online lectures, video demonstrations and motivational units, it introduces the student to different techniques of watercolour with an emphasis on the local surroundings of seascapes and skies. Drawing, painting, evaluative and comparative study skills will be taught in an informal way. The module will also include the study of contemporary painters and painters in history who choose to represent the subject in different ways.

 

Syllabus:

  • Discussion: painting moving skies, changing weather
  • Peculiarities of British weather: quality of light
  • Wet on wet painting
  • Tonal painting
  • colour mixing, greys with complementary highlights
  • Cloud study sheet
  • Analysing styles of paintings
  • Reflected, local and complementary colour
  • Aerial perspective

Drawing projects: boats in perspective, landscape and coastline as well as skyscapes and moving water.
