Course Description

This five-credit module would help students to develop an appreciation for ferns and their allies, learning about their diversity through the study of their form, habitats and how to identify them. The module will cover observational drawing in graphite, charcoal and pen, watercolour and mixed media techniques to depict a variety of fern species and forms, with accuracy of colour and detail. A context of relevant historical and contemporary artists work will be given to support the study.

This is an ideal course for anyone interested in Natural History, students undertaking field studies courses, as well as art and design courses, and the biological sciences, who wish to develop their knowledge and gain the skills to depict their subjects.

The full learning hours for this course are 50 notional study hours.
