Course Description

This 5-credit module would help students to develop an appreciation and knowledge about insects, specifically flying insects starting with bees, then beetles and finally butterflies and moths. This will be through the study of their anatomy and observational drawing. A context of relevant historical and contemporary artists work will be given to support the study.

Students will learn drawing and watercolour techniques, observational and identification skills, and recording findings in the field if possible. This is an ideal course for anyone interested in Natural History and entomology, students undertaking field studies courses, as well as art and design courses, and the biological sciences, who wish to develop their knowledge and gain the skills to depict their subjects.

The full learning hours for this course are 50 notional study hours.
