The Kingdom of Fungi is a fascinating, ancient and diverse one. In this introductory course, we delve into this world, looking at the vital ecological role fungi play in our forests and showing how species vary according to habitat - be this woodland or pasture. Although we will touch on many aspects of mycology the focus will be on how to identify the larger fungi with a look at some of the key edible and poisonous species in the UK. It includes an overview of the historical relationship in Britain and Europe, with a look at the use of fungi for food, medicine and craft. This is an optional (Level 0) module for the CHE.
