This course is aimed at students who have attended Beginners 1 or similar or have some very basic knowledge of Chinese. It will provide students with a good introductory command of Chinese, developing all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

This course is aimed at students who have attended Beginners 1 or similar or have some very basic knowledge of Chinese. It will provide students with a good introductory command of Chinese, developing all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The module will equip students with a very basic knowledge of the countries where Chinese is spoken and encourage their curiosity about the language, the country, the people, their environment, society, traditions and culture. It will enable the student to reach a level of very basic competence in the four main areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The student will acquire basic language skills, to enable students to:

• Talk about the near future
• Buy and describe clothes (size and colour)
• Discuss likes and dislikes
• Go to a Chinese restaurant and order
• Go to a bar and order
• Talk about routine daily activities
• Deal with hotel accommodation
• Discuss hobbies and everyday activities
• Go shopping
• Go to the doctor and talk about problems
