This course is designed to provide an introduction to agronomy principles that can be applied to Controlled Environment Agriculture systems.

Course Description

Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) is a technology-based approach to food production, allowing growers/food producers and agri-tech businesses to optimise growing conditions and resource usage. CEA has the potential to increase business resilience and food security in the face of factors such as climate change and land availability. This module introduces you to the agronomical aspects of growing plants in CEA systems. Through a series of online lectures, guided
reading and quizzes, students will look at:

• The key agronomic factors affecting plant cultivation in CEA systems
• Impacts of technological choices on plant growth, and interpret selections made by CEA enterprises
• Viable solutions to plant production challenges using CEA systems
• Learning will be tested with formative quizzes and by a summative Masters level quiz at the end of the module

Those wishing to be assessed will take a Masters level quiz at the end of the module (pass-mark 70%).
