This course is aimed at absolute beginners and will introduce students to the Chinese language and culture while developing all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Course Description

This course is aimed at absolute beginners and will introduce students to the Chinese language and culture while developing all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The module will equip students with a very basic knowledge of the countries where Chinese is spoken and encourage their curiosity about the language, the country, the people, their environment, society, traditions and culture. It will enable the student to reach a level of very basic competence in the four main areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The student will acquire basic language skills, to enable students to:

  • Introduce themselves to someone
  • Greetings
  • Talk about other people
  • Shopping for food
  • Tell the time
  • Give basic directions
  • Travel
  • Describe locations
  • Describe people, character and appearance
  • Discuss nationality and country
