This microcredential introduces project management techniques relevant to industry and business. Through examining and reflecting on the processes of planning, organising, and managing engineering projects, this microcredential will explore a range of mangement models, and planning tools and techniques. We will apply these to the design, planning, cost control and management of given project scenarios.

Course Description

We will explore:

  • Management philosophy - Overview of engineering projects and the concept of engineering project management; project management versus management; project types; effect of size on project organisation; Ethical, sustainability, moral, and legal questions
  • Tools and techniques - User requirements definition and specifications; Milestones; Project Planning, Work Breakdown Structures; Network techniques: Gantt, PERT, CPA ; Project finance. Estimating, monitoring. Resource scheduling; Crash Programming; Negotiation. Presentation skills and management of meetings

Those wishing to be assessed will complete a recorded presentation and a 800 word report (pass-mark 50%)
