Course Description

This practical course will enable learners to understand and learn how a sewing machine operates - identifying its various parts, threading and bobbins, thread tension, safety around machines and how to fix common stitch errors. Learners will then learn the basics of sewing including sew in a straight line and turning corners, seams, pressing, as well as how to understand materials and patterns. Through the creation of actual garments, learners will learn and develop basic sewing skills which will enable them to progress their sewing independently or on further Lifelong Learning courses.

Sewing for Beginners can be studied as a stand-alone course and is an optional course for the Certificate of Higher Education in Art and Design at Aberystwyth University.
