Course Description

The Strand Line is a fascinating area of discovery, where waves carry objects, plants, and creatures on to the shore. A wealth of species calls it home and we’re going to delve into what you can find there.

On this blended course we get to make the most of the beautiful scenery of the Aberystwyth strandline and you will be learning drawing and painting in the field skills, observing specimens in situ and the impact that humans have had on the beaches. We will work on drawing from life, photographing subjects, colour mixing and watercolour painting in detail that you can take back to your own studios to work on.

We will be utilizing the amazing space of Arad Gogh in Aberystwyth from the 3rd and 4th of July 2024 from 10-3 to work on detailed drawing and watercolour paintings of the shoreline specimens we have found. We will also have talks, discussions, and group activities to really make the most of working together and the opportunity to learn about this fascinating subject and the role of science and art together. This in-person part of the course is compulsory so why not make the most of the journey and treat yourself to an artistic holiday and enjoy creating a beautiful Visual Diary of your time on the Aberystwyth strandline?
