Course Description

This course explores the relationship between creative writing and personal wellbeing. Through journaling, reflective writing, storytelling, poetry, and nature writing, learners will discover how writing can support self-awareness, mindfulness, emotional expression, and personal growth. The course introduces a range of practical techniques that encourage reflection and exploration, helping learners develop a sustainable writing practice while gaining a deeper understanding of their own experiences and narratives. Topics include expressive writing, narrative identity, resilience, and meaning-making, providing opportunities to use writing as a tool for wellbeing and self discovery. Suitable for beginners and experienced writers alike, this course offers a supportive and reflective approach to creative writing, with no prior writing experience required.

Writing for Wellbeing can be studied as a stand-alone course and is an optional course for the Certificate of Higher Education in Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University.
