Course Description

This module will introduce the National Library of Wales and its collections to those with an interest in historical research.

This is a hands-on course involving a series of tours, presentations and practical work, provided by a tutor from Aberystwyth University and expert staff from the National Library of Wales. The module assumes no prior knowledge or experience and will offer students an introduction both to the resources and facilities available at the National Library, and an introduction to general research skills and academic practice. There will be opportunities to see at first hand some of the exciting work carried out by the Library. Students will also be able to identify and order material to develop a research project around their own interests, with support from the tutor.

Introduction to Archive research in Wales (Library of Wales) can be studied as a stand-alone course and it is an optional course for the Certificate of Higher Education in Genealogical Studies at Aberystwyth University.
