This course is aimed at students who have attended Beginners 2 or similar or have a basic knowledge of Greek. It will introduce students to contemporary Greek, developing all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Course Description

This course is aimed at students who have attended Beginners 2 or similar or have a basic knowledge of Greek. It will introduce students to contemporary Greek, developing all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. 

The module will equip students with a very basic knowledge of the countries where Greek is spoken and encourage their curiosity about the language, the country, the people, their environment, society, traditions and culture. It will enable the student to reach a level of very basic competence in the four main areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The student will acquire basic language skills, to enable students to:

  • Expand upon daily routines
  • Describe houses, buildings and places.
  • Describe people (appearance, character)
  • Deal with hotel accommodation (checking in, booking ahead, making requests)
  • Expand on detail directions
  • Health problems (seeking medical advice, go to the chemist)
  • Complain about things
  • Compare and contrast things
  • Talk about the weather
  • Writing a letter / postcard
