This module is complementary to the Fibre to Form module. It will focus upon sourcing and using locally found materials (foraged and made), developing weaving styles, and creating a sustainable arts practice by using plant-based and recycled materials. 

Course Description

This module is complementary to the Fibre to Form module. It will focus upon sourcing and using locally found materials (foraged and made), developing weaving styles, and creating a sustainable arts practice by using plant-based and recycled materials. Skills learnt in the Fibre to Form module will be developed over the four weeks, but this unit is also suitable for someone starting their first foray into weaving and using found materials.

Students will be required to push the idea of creating sculptural shapes as well baskets from the found materials and the weaving techniques. The course will include discussions and demonstrations on how to find, process (drying, etc.) and use basketry techniques to create objects. The unit will explore function and the application of ancient crafts and techniques to use in the students own sustainable creative practice.
