Course Description

Knowing grasses, sedges and rushes.

When is a grass not a grass? When it's a rush or a sedge! But how do you spot the difference? Here we will explore how thousands of years of evolutionary divergence has gotten us to where we are today with our three distinct families.

Grasses form a key part of most plant communities but are notoriously difficult to identify.

Using identity keys and growth staging, you can get familiar with the countryside around you and begin to identify your way through any field.

Immerse yourself in nature and take the first step in understanding your surroundings.

We will focus on the most important species from each family to get you started on your journey to be better connected to the natural world.
