Course Description

This module provides an overview of the changing nature of the family in the twentieth century. Twentieth century Britain was a time of huge change and upheaval, with the family of 1900 very different to that of the turn of the millennium. This module will examine the family through the lens of masculinity and femininity, as well as through war, the development of the welfare state, and the changing nature of work. Using a range of sources, from written documents to oral histories, to media, this module will provide you with the skills to identify continuity and change in the family unit through a tumultuous period in British history.

The sessions will be online, with a pre-recorded lecture released each Monday and a 'live' Teams session each Wednesday.
