Course Description

The Welsh landscape is dotted with castles, fortified manor houses, and country estates that were shared between a handful of wealthy aristocratic, gentry, and, later, industrialist families. In this ten-week course, we will explore several case studies from across Wales, with the opportunity to explore your own local landscape and history. We will explore the properties themselves, the people that lived in them, the landscapes in which they sit, and the relationship with the communities around them. This course will immerse you in the architectural, social, political, and economic history of Wales from their rise in the turbulence of the Tudor period to the properties as they stand today.
