This course is aimed at students who have attended Chinese Beginners 2 or similar or have a basic knowledge of Chinese. It will introduce students to contemporary Chinese, developing all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

This course is aimed at students who have attended Chinese Beginners 2 or similar or have a basic knowledge of Chinese. It will introduce students to contemporary Chinese, developing all four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.  

The module will equip students with a very basic knowledge of the countries where Chinese is spoken and encourage their curiosity about the language, the country, the people, their environment, society, traditions and culture. It will enable the student to reach a level of very basic competence in the four main areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The student will acquire basic language skills, to enable students to:

• Expand upon daily routines
• Describe houses, buildings and places
• Go to the cinema, theatre, events
• Give reasons and discuss matters
• Complain about things
• Discuss sports
• Compare and contrast things
• Telephone conversations
